Many roads lead to our beautiful vacation region. Less than two hours' drive from the major conurbations on the Rhine and Ruhr, we are an ideal local recreation destination. On this page, we have put together a list of ways in which you can get around the region and how you can arrive and depart in a relaxed manner. We will be happy to answer any questions you may have and wish you a pleasant journey!
Hiking bus
Relaxed to the most beautiful hiking destinations
The hiking bus takes you up to the most beautiful hiking destinations, romantic valleys and idyllic mountain villages. For example, take the bus from your vacation resort to the starting point of your hike and hike back. Alternatively, you can also drive to the destination of your hike and take the hiking bus to the starting point and then hike back to your car at your leisure.
The hiking bus runs from Tuesdays to Sundays along the Rothaar ridge and through the Lenne valley to the most beautiful hiking destinations and is free of charge for you with the Schmallenberger Sauerland Card free of charge.

A brilliant idea!
Bad Fredeburg - Schmiedinghausen - Holthausen - Schmallenberg and back
The Schwammklöpper-Linie 474 runs from Bad Fredeburg, via Schmiedinghausen and Holthausen to the center of Schmallenberg. From June 5, there will even be weekend services. The new line, which is operated by a minibus, complements the public transport service for passengers from the northern part of Bad Fredeburg.

With the Schmallenberger Sauerland Card you have the opportunity to use the "Ruf-Taxi" daily for a fee of €2 for adults and €1 for children. Three times a day at fixed departure times it drives a fixed route in the Sorpetal as well as in Westfeld and Ohlenbach along the stops listed below.
The call cab must be requested at least one hour before the desired departure time by calling 02972 921092.

The hiking cabs in the Schmallenberg Sauerland take you to the most beautiful stages and routes. Plan your day tour or relaxed circular hike through the beautiful landscape of the Schmallenberger Sauerland and the vacation region Eslohe. Holders of the Schmallenberger Sauerland Card pay a fare of €2 for adults and €1 for children.
Boating on the Sauerland lakes

Take the whole family to one of the beautiful reservoirs in the Sauerland. With the Schmallenberger Sauerland Card you can travel at half price on the excursion boats of your choice on Hennesee*, Sorpesee, Möhnesee or Biggesee cruise.

When headwinds and inclines dampen your mood, the push of a button can change everything. It switches on a quiet, environmentally friendly electric motor that intervenes to provide support, depending on how steep the incline is and how much assistance you have set. E-bikes have conquered cycle tourism in the land of a thousand mountains. Joint cycling excursions for people with different levels of fitness have become a fun, nature-oriented vacation experience for everyone. Try it out for yourself. E-biking is really easy and great fun!
Arrival by car
Over all the mountains into the land of a thousand mountains...
The best way to reach us by car is via the:
- BAB 45 "Sauerlandlinie" from the direction of Dortmund, highway exit Olpe
- BAB 45 from the direction of Frankfurt/Stuttgart, highway exit Olpe
- BAB 4 Köln/Olpe, to highway junction Wenden, continue on the BAB 45 in the direction of Dortmund to the highway exit Olpe (approx. 5 km)
- BAB 44 from the direction of Dortmund to the interchange Werl, continue on the BAB 445 in the direction of Arnsberg to highway exit Meschede/Enste (B55) or Wennemen
- BAB 44 from the direction of Kassel to the highway exit Erwitte/Anröchte
- BAB 2 Hannover-Dortmund to highway exit Paderborn continue on BAB 33
Arrival by train
The surrounding train stations are on average 25 minutes away from us by car. You can continue your journey by bus to the Schmallenberg Sauerland and the vacation region Eslohe organize:
- From the train station Lennestadt-Altenhundem with the SB9 bus line
- From the station Meschede with the S90 bus line
- From the station Winterberg with bus line S40.
Arrival by long-distance bus
An inexpensive and convenient alternative is to travel by long-distance bus. The green large-capacity cabs run regularly between cities in the Ruhgebiet, the Netherlands, Lower Saxony, Hessen or Berlin - more than 20 cities are suitable as starting points for your vacation in the Schmallenberger Sauerland and the vacation region Eslohe.
