Tradition and modernity

Reister Markt on 26 and 27 August 2017

Eslohe. For over 950 years it has been a tradition to meet every year at the end of August at the "Reister Markt" in Reiste in the Sauerland. It is the oldest animal show in the Sauerland and so the extensive animal show is the heart of the Saturday morning. From 9 o'clock on, the animals are presented to the interested public and the critical eyes of the judges according to the appropriate classification, such as cattle (red and black coloured cows, beef cattle) and horses (warm and cold blooded horses with and without foals, Haflinger, Quarter Horses, Arabians, ponies and donkeys) as well as rabbits and pigeons from the small animal breeding association. The catchment area of the annual district animal show is the districts of Eslohe, Bestwig, Sundern, Meschede and Arnsberg. In addition, the agricultural exhibition shows numerous stands of agricultural traders, suppliers of technology, feed and general agricultural supplies. A fixed component of the Reister Markt is also the Krammarkt with more than 140 stalls in several streets. Here you can buy everything from frying pans to wool socks. Real funfair fun on the large square at the Reister Schützenhalle is just as firmly anchored in the customs of the market. Rides, popcorn stands and, of course, cool drinks invite you to socialize. The grand finale of the festival is the big fireworks display on Sunday evening. The 8th Schmallenberg Veteran Tour on 26 August 2017

Schmallenberg. The friends of chrome flashing veterans will get their money's worth on 26.08.2017 in Schmallenberg. The MSC Schmallenberg invites you to the biennial "Schmallenberg Veterans Tour". Vintage cars and motorcycles with two, three or four wheels, built before 1987, take part and set off on a tour of about 140 km through the true land of a thousand mountains. Fascination landscape meets chrome and charm of past years in two stages. The riders on the tour, which is already fully booked, use maps to find their way through the Sauerland landscapes and picturesque half-timbered villages in order to reach their destination quickly. But accelerating isn't everything: On the way, "special tasks" have to be solved if you want to win this tour. Spectators can admire the "Schnauferl" at the start from 09.30 a.m. at the car dealership Gierse & Schöllmann in the "Gewerbegebiet Lake" or from 4 p.m. at the finish on the Paul-Falke-Platz in Schmallenberg. From about 19 o'clock in the evening, the award ceremony will take place as part of the "Schmallenberger Lichter" event. 1. Sauerland round trip through South Westphalia

Race of the Lila Logistik Radbundesliga on August 27, 2017

Schmallenberg / South Westphalia. Nearly 180 cyclists from all over Germany meet in the region at the end of August to compete in the penultimate race of the season as part of the "Lila Logistik Radbundesliga". The start will be in Neheim and the route will run for about 180 to 200 kilometres through the region. So far, Arnsberg, Warstein-Hirschberg, Meschede, Eslohe, Sundern, Schmallenberg and Kreuztal have been named as twin towns. Numerous climbs, spectacular descents and Germany's best cyclists make this event a real highlight in the region's sports calendar and one of the most difficult cycling races in Germany. The race is organized by RC Victoria Neheim in cooperation with many clubs and communities from the Hochsauerlandkreis. For about 18 months a part of the participants met regularly to realize the not easy project, to work out the route and to get all necessary permissions. The Sauerland Tour continues the tradition of numerous successful cycle races that have already been held in the region. "Up until the 1990s, the international Hennesee-Rundfahrt, the 'Gütersloh - Warstein - Gütersloh' tour and even the Tour of Germany has already taken place twice through the region," the organizers state in their publication.
