Six reasons why golf makes you happy

You can discover the perfect green for example in the Schmallenberger Sauerland.

(djd). Golf has long since ceased to be a sport for an elite, but for all those who enjoy being out in nature and want to do something for their health. The game of precise swings and long tees puts strain on the muscles, gets the circulation going and promotes concentration. Hubertus Schmidt, tourism director in the Schmallenberger Sauerland and himself an enthusiastic golfer, has experienced it often enough: "The guests are delighted with the two golf courses on site. People of all ages find their happiness during their sporting stay in the beautiful landscape and are impressed by the 27-hole panorama course in Winkhausen and the 18-hole course in Sellinghausen, where the conditions are ideal. For Schmidt, the enthusiasm for golf has six main reasons:

  • Anyone who plays golf is out in the fresh air all year round, whatever the weather. A round of golf with 18 holes lasts about four hours and measures on average about eight kilometres. During this round, you build up your stamina like during a half-day hike.
  • On the golf course concentration and coordination are encouraged. Because only those who do not allow themselves to be distracted and ensure that head and body find their way together to a precise sequence of movements will be able to hole out with as few strokes as possible.
  • The beauty of nature, in which many golf courses are embedded, creates feelings of happiness.
  • Old and young playing together - hardly any other ball sport can be so individually tailored to the possibilities of a person as golf. Grandparents, parents and grandchildren can hit balls together - an experience that spans generations.
  • Those who like to play golf alone against their own handicap or in a team - there are many team competitions, such as the Falke Golf Marathon on 3 June 2017 at Golfclub Schmallenberg. More information about this can be found at www.schmallenberger-sauerland.de.
  • Golfing together means getting to know a person. Or as Wolfgang Röller, former head of the Dresdner Bank, once put it: "Eighteen golf holes tell you more about your fellow players than nineteen years together at your desk.
