Cycling with bus & train

The local public transport system has adapted to the needs of cyclists in the region. The "leisure bus", the line S90 of the BRS GmbH, for example, takes you to the most beautiful excursion destinations in the region. It runs between Meschede, Bödefeld, Bad Fredeburg and Schmallenberg and even transports your bike on Sundays and public holidays free of charge by bike trailer (from the end of April to the end of October). In addition, you can use the hiking bus, which can also transport your bikes - with the Schmallenberger Sauerland Card even free of charge.

Nodal point system

Safely through South Westphalia

With us you can simply cycle without losing your bearings. The "node system" makes it possible. It divides Sauerland and Siegerland-Wittgenstein into a honeycomb structure. The corner points of these "honeycombs" (= junctions) bear numbers that are repeated on signposts in the landscape. In addition, information boards at road and cycle path intersections provide information about the local network of paths. So you can change your plans spontaneously and still arrive safely.

Touring cycling / Family cycling

Along former railway lines, quiet rivers or swinging landscapes: Here you can cycle and enjoy in a relaxed way.

SauerlandRadringOn the way on old railway lines

84 kilometres along former railway lines and through the "Fledermaustunnel" - the SauerlandRadring introduces itself.

This route connects the towns of Finnentrop, Eslohe, Schmallenberg and Lennestadt. In addition, you can add the 42 km long "HenneseeSchleife", which will take you to Meschede, there around the Hennesee and finally to the RuhrtalRadweg. Small museums, lovingly restored contemporary witnesses of former industrial and handicraft culture, natural adventure pools and a 700 m long bat tunnel (open from April to October) make this tour a multifaceted cycling pleasure.

Hennesee Loop

The so-called "HenneseeSchleife" of the SauerlandRadring closes the gap to the well-known RuhrtalRadweg and is worth a cycle tour in itself. It leads over 40 kilometres through the Wennetal and from Wennemen along the Ruhrtalradweg to the district town of Meschede. Along the Henne and the eastern shore of the Henneseesee you will reach the SauerlandRadring again.

Short version "About the villages

For families we have developed a short version of the SauerlandRadring. It covers a maximum of 54 kilometres (i.e. a single battery charge) through the beautiful villages of the Schmallenberg Sauerland and the Eslohe holiday region. With many interesting stops and resting places along the way.

LennerouteCycling along the river Lenne...

Nature and recreation, culture and way of life on 150 km length serves the Lenneroute. Along the river Lenne from its source on the Kahler Asten to its mouth in the Ruhr near Hagen. Whoever cycles it "learns" a lot of interesting facts about the history and development of the regional industrial culture, which has always been closely linked to the river itself

Our tip: Visit the Altena Castle with the adventure elevator, which leads from the city centre directly to the castle courtyard.

To the Lenneroute...

Ruhr-Victory Cycle RouteCycle from river to river

113 kilometres with little gradient invite you to explore the area from Meschede via Eslohe, Finnentrop, Attendorn, Olpe, Wenden and Freudenberg to Kirchen. On the way you will encounter two former railway tunnels, Lake Bigge and many attractive places and buildings along the way. This route connects the Sauerland with the Siegerland and the northern Westerwald and can be combined with the RuhrtalRadweg, the Bergische Panoramaweg, the Siegtal-Radweg and the SauerlandRadring for longer tours.

To the Ruhr-Sieg Cycle Path...

Kinderland Trekking-Rad routeThe sporty family experience!

This scenically very beautiful cycle route invites sporty families to cycle approx. 52 km through the Schmallenberger Sauerland. Should the little bikers "run out of breath" on the way, the route can be shortened at four crossroads

In the map are of course the most beautiful playgrounds and miniature golf courses, which invite you to a pleasurable rest. Or you can stop for a bite to eat at one of the restaurants along the way.

Renewable Energy TourDiscover. Experiencing. Understanding.

Along this unique route you can learn a lot about renewable energy. The 31 km long cycle path shows the real applications of renewable energies at 16 stations: Hydropower, solar thermal, photovoltaic, environmental heat, wood, biogas and wind energy. At each station the function and mode of operation is clearly explained. It leads through Inderlenne, Holthausen, Bad Fredeburg, Ebbinghof, Gleidorf and Fleckenberg with slight inclines. You can shorten the way back via the Lenneroute.
