In the cutlery museum Fleckenberg you experience the way from the tin to the coffee spoon. Water power can be experienced at close quarters, as all machines are driven by a flow turbine. Guided tours with demonstrations through the punching shop, grinding shop, locksmith's shop up to the water inlet are possible.

Model railway system on the Rothaarsteig
In the Westphalian Slate Mining and Local History Museum Holthausen you will learn all about (everyday) life in the Schmallenberger Sauerland in times gone by. Learn how slate and rocks were mined and how they were formed over millions of years. Get to know the animals of the forest and experience a lot of vivid information about former ways of living and working, about the economic life in the Sauerland with a printing workshop, in the textile and flax department as well as in a bookbinding workshop.
A special highlight of your tour is the "Südwestfäliche Galerie", where art of the region from the 19th and 20th century is shown with collections of Eugen Senge plates, Hinrich Grauenhorst, Paul Hermann Schödder, Carl Siebert and many others.

On the Homertstraße you can expect historical steam and power engines, local history and folklore, old crafts and agriculture, old smithy on over 2,000 m². There are also changing exhibitions, an idyllic outdoor area with historic buildings, hydroelectric power plants and a play area.

Passenger rides on the historical museum railway:
From April to October on every 1st and 3rd Saturday of the month from 3 - 5 p.m. as well as on the Steam Day, which always takes place on the last full weekend in May and September from 10 - 6 p.m.

A model railway layout with a layout area of 66 m² is shown in a former knitting factory. 92 trains roll on 550 metres of track and delight model railway fans of all ages. 15 computer-controlled vehicles drive on the streets of the layout and a day/night light control makes it night every 24 minutes. At the same time, the lights of the houses and cars are turned on at random and controlled by time.

The Stertschultenhof is a special farm and belongs to the outstanding farms of the Sauerland. The main house was built in 1769 and is lovingly looked after by the Heimat- und Förderverein Cobbenrode. The gable is considered to be one of the most impressive in the Sauerland
Enjoy the special atmosphere of this house and rediscover the past. We serve delicious homemade cake and fragrant coffee. The Mundartarchiv Sauerland has its domicile here.
Now it's getting cold in the Sauerland Museum: When the last ice age reached its peak about 20,000 years ago, the temperature in Central Europe was about 15 degrees lower than today and the annual average was about five degrees below zero.In the inhospitable steppes, woolly mammoths, aurochs and steppe bison roamed about, which are presented in the exhibition in original size. The absolute highlight of the exhibition is the 43,000-year-old, almost complete skeleton of the so-called "Ahlen Mammoth" with its stately size of 5.50 meters in length and 3.25 meters in height. It is being made available to the Sauerland Museum for the exhibition by the Geomuseum of the Westphalian Wilhelms University in Münster.
Until September 4, you can visit the special exhibition "You Witch! Opfer und ihre Häscher" you can learn exciting facts about the witch hunt.

Immerse yourself in the history of justice - quasi "on the spot". The court museum is located in the attic of the Bad Fredeburg district court building. Experience an exciting journey through more than seven hundred years of Bad Fredeburg's jurisdiction and take a seat on the "Armesünderbank", for example. You can also see a gallows, pyre, prison cell, femelinde, seal press, legal literature and much more.

The bakehouse in Wenholthausen has been used in different ways over the centuries, e.g. as a smithy, post office and cartwright's shop
Today, in the unique pear-shaped oven, approx. 25 - 30 delicious loaves of bread can be baked within an hour: Genuine Sauerland bread according to old recipes.
